Spring is in the air and the most exciting thing about this
is Keukenhof garden is open and tulips are blooming. The area around Lisse,
Bollenstreek and Noordwijkerhout are the biggest tulip farm in Europe (or maybe
in the world even). I have been to Keukenhof 3 years ago and I wanted to
experience something different. Thus, my friends and I came with a brilliant
idea to discover the whole area with bike. After 1 month of searching and
planning finally they day is coming…
There were 8 of us so we drove 2 cars; I, Jan, Arini and Wim
were in one car – Kristof, Birgitta, Patricia and Jamal were in the other. We
departed from Leuven around 7.30am and headed directly to Noordwijkerhout where
we rented the bike.
Actually we have made the reservation for our bike and we
have booked men bike. Arrived there we realized that the Dutch are very tall
and so were their bikes and finally we chose orange women bikes. Hahaha…
There were several options for the bike routes and we chose
one of the furthest as we have the whole day to spend. The route marks were
very clear which indicated by number so it was easy to follow. We really enjoyed
the view along the routes due to almost all of the tulips were blooming and of
course we made a few stops to take a picture. Everything went according to plan
until the point that we reached a road in the middle of the desert. Oh shit, we
must have been lost. As we were checking our map, a nice couple approached us
and informed that there was a beach ahead and without thinking any further we
headed to the beach. The beach was clean but the weather was a bit windy so
basically it wasn’t the best day to hang out there. However we managed to have a
bite and something to drink.
Then we continue our way to some more beautiful tulip farms
with many different colours. The farms actually located on the private property
so it is not allowed to go in there without permission of the owner. But it
seemed that some tourists didn’t give a fuck and still went inside to take
picture… I wander if they were ignorant or just didn’t understand the meaning
of ‘verboden toegang’ (no entrance) which clearly mentioned on the gate.
We made another stop as we noticed that day there was a
flower parade around the city. It was nice but frankly speaking I was expecting
more. After the parade finish, then we ride again and all of us were so happy
to find out that one of the farms opened for public. And obviously we stopped
again and took some more pictures and videos.
We back to the bike rental at 5.30pm and we ride to Den Haag
where we spent the night. It was indeed a fun day even though until the time I write
this I can still feel pain on my knees. It was all worth it.
